The Ice of 2010

The Winter of 2010 brought freighter traffic on the river to a standstill on  different occasions.  The weekend of January 8 a freighter was stopped northbound off of Harsen’s island and four following ships became trapped while waiting for the first to clear.

On February 7 the Canadian Transfer becomes stuck south of Fawn Island  A day later Algosea is trapped in the same spot.

During a quieter time on February 23 a large task force of Canadian and American Ice Breakers work to clear the channels of the delta to allow the ice to escape the river into Lake St. Clair.

On March 24 two convoys pass one another at Algonac State Park just North of the worst ice on the River.
